Work with Mobile Midwives

A midwife-led organisation offering flexible, non-clinical pregnancy and postnatal support.

We work with midwives who want sustainable ways of practising that respect professional boundaries, personal capacity, and family life.

About Mobile Midwives (CIC)

Mobile Midwives is a Community Interest Company (CIC). We exist to improve access to supportive, ethical maternity information and guidance, while also supporting midwives to work in ways that are realistic, humane and sustainable.

From time to time, Mobile Midwives secures external funding to support specific projects or communities. When this happens, paid opportunities may arise directly through Mobile Midwives. These opportunities vary, are time-limited, and are not guaranteed.

As a CIC, we are:

  • Set up for community benefit rather than private profit
  • Any surplus is reinvested into the service and its social purpose
  • Values-led, transparent, and impact-focused

Who this may suit

This may be a good fit if you are:

  • An experienced midwife seeking flexible, non-clinical work
  • A midwife returning to practice
  • A newly qualified midwife awaiting a substantive post
  • In search of a gentle, supported route into self-employment
  • Looking for work that fits around health needs, family life, or other roles

All work sits within clearly defined non-clinical boundaries.

What Working With Us Looks Like

At a High Level

  • Non-clinical support focused on education, reassurance, listening and signposting
  • Opportunities that may include remote support, education-based work, or project roles
  • Flexibility to work around your availability and capacity

Advertise Your Own Services

Midwives in the network also have the option to advertise services they already run, such as:

  • Antenatal education or groups
  • Pregnancy relaxation or wellbeing support
  • Complementary or education-based offerings within scope

Availability & Diary Access

As part of being in the Mobile Midwives network:

  • Midwives have access to an online diary
  • You choose the hours you wish to make available
  • Families can view and request appointments during those times

Making availability visible does not guarantee bookings or paid work.

Professional Boundaries, Safety & Regulation

All work undertaken through Mobile Midwives is non-clinical and sits clearly within the scope of education, support and guidance.

Mobile Midwives is not currently regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), as regulated activities are not provided. However:

  • Governance and onboarding checks are intentionally robust
  • Processes are aligned with the standards expected of a regulated service
  • This supports safe practice, professional accountability, and future readiness should registration become appropriate

Midwives are expected to practise in line with:

  • The NMC Code
  • Their individual scope of practice
  • Appropriate professional judgement and escalation

Support & Onboarding

We recognise that stepping into non-clinical or flexible work can feel unfamiliar.

Midwives working with Mobile Midwives can expect:

  • A thoughtful onboarding process
  • Guidance that is proportionate to experience and confidence
  • Clear boundaries around scope and escalation
  • Ongoing support when questions or uncertainties arise
Newly Qualified Midwives

Newly Qualified Midwives

We welcome interest from newly qualified midwives who:

  • Are awaiting a substantive post
  • Want to maintain professional confidence and skills
  • Are curious about future self-employment but want to explore this safely

Scope of work and support is matched to experience. Further information about expectations, support and suitability is shared once you register your interest, so we can have an informed and appropriate conversation.

Subscriptions & Engagement

Mobile Midwives operates on a subscription model.

Subscriptions support:

  • Access to the platform and diary
  • Visibility within the network
  • Ongoing development and sustainability of the service

There are different subscription tiers available, depending on how you wish to engage. Full details are shared after you register your interest.
